On 3 December 2024, the Australian Government introduced the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) as part of reforms to the skilled migration program.

This new list replaces the outdated and rigid occupation lists previously used in the temporary skilled visa system. Developed through labour market analysis and consultations by Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA), the CSOL consolidates 456 occupations into a single, dynamic list tailored to meet Australia's workforce needs.

The CSOL will support two key visa pathways:

  1. Core Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa, replacing the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa starting 7 December 2024.

  2. Direct Entry stream of the permanent Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa.

Further details on the Skills in Demand visa, National Innovation visa, and other reforms taking effect on 7 December 2024 will be announced soon. STAY TUNED!
